Installation Note 43350: When installing SAS® 9.3 from media, the AutoRun feature is not used

DetailsAboutRate It

In SAS 9.2, the autorun.inf file is part of the installation. In SAS 9.3, the autorun.inf file is no longer part of the installation.

The autorun.inf file is used to automatically start the installation process when you insert the DVDs.

The file was removed from SAS 9.3 because of tightened security; this was of particular concern with antivirus software programs, which prevent Windows from creating the file.

If you want to enable AutoRun to work in your environment, do the following:

  1. Make a copy of the original DVD.
  2. Add an autorun.inf file to the root directory.
  3. Burn a new DVD.

To enable the AutoRun feature, create an autorun.inf file with the following contents:

[AutoRun] open=setup.exe -autorun

For more details about AutoRun, see the following article:

On some Windows systems, if AutoPlay is enabled, the following window might appear when you insert a SAS DVD:

If you see this window, click the Open folder to view files link to view files, or click the X in the upper right corner to close the window.
